Liberty Rings
Molly and her family took a trip. They traveled to Pennsylvania. Their first stop was Philadelphia. Molly could not wait to see the Liberty Bell. She had read about it in a book. Molly knew that the bell was a part of history.
In 1751, it was decided that the Pennsylvania State House needed a bell. The men in charge wrote a letter. It was sent to a bell maker in London, England. It said that a bell was needed. There were instructions in the letter. The men wanted words carved into the bell. The words were from the Bible.
The bell arrived about a year later. It was hung. After it was rung, a crack was noticed. The men in charge did not like the crack. They sent the bell to be repaired. Two men in Pennsylvania fixed the bell. Their names were John Pass and John Stow. They melted the bell down. They remade the bell. They put their names on it. This time more copper was added. The copper was supposed to make the bell stronger.
