Keep Your Money Safe

Robbery, stolen ATM cards, identity theft. You hear about these things all the time on the news. Think it couldn't happen to you? Think again.

You work hard for your money. You don't want to lose it. It is important to keep it safe. There are several ways to do this.

The safest place to keep your money is in a bank. Each bank account is insured by the federal government. This means that if the bank goes out of business, the government will pay you back any money you had deposited.

Banks offer you many ways to keep your money safe. It is also easy to get your money out of the bank when you need it. This helps with an important money safety rule: don't keep large amounts of money in your pocket or purse. You also should not keep large amounts in your home. If you are robbed, you will lose your cash. It will be very hard to ever get it back. Keep your hard earned cash in a checking or savings account at a bank. Only take out and carry what you truly need to have in your pocket.

One way you can take money out of your bank account is by writing a check. Unfortunately, it is fairly easy for someone else to write a check from your account without your permission. Always keep your checkbook and extra checks in a safe place. If you lose them, call your bank at once. They will help you protect the money in your account. Never lend your checks to anyone for any reason.
