Junior Rangers to the Rescue, Part 2

Right away, orders came over the radio for everyone to halt. Frank watched from a distance as Ranger Cunningham urged his horse into a hand gallop to reach them. Cochise tossed his brown head as he stopped near Frank.

"Show me what you found, Frank," said the ranger.

Frank pointed to the teddy bear. It was almost invisible in the leafy shadows.

"Good eyes," said the ranger. "You're right. It does look like the same one that is in the picture."

"I think I see something here," said Hank. He was a little further up than Frank. He pointed to some small broken branches with stray hairs clinging to them.

The ranger tucked the toy into an evidence bag and placed it into Cochise's saddle bag. He watched the ground carefully as he led the horse over to where Hank waited.

He made no comment as he carefully pulled off the hairs and put them in another evidence bag. Then he stowed that away too.

"Good job, Hank," he said. "You all might be onto something here. I'll ride on the other side of Gary for a bit, just in case." He picked up his radio and asked everyone to move forward again.

The boys concentrated even harder than before. It seemed like every rock shaded a foot print or held some other clue, but on second look, it was just their eyes playing tricks.
