Jimmy Carter was our thirty-ninth president. He was born in Georgia in 1924. He grew up on a peanut farm. Carter served as a naval officer for seven years. In 1962, he entered state politics. He was elected governor of Georgia eight years later. Carter ran for president in 1976. He beat Gerald Ford. Carter had a tough job ahead of him. Energy costs were rising. Inflation was high.
