Jay could hardly wait. It was fall at last!
The trees were changing colors. The air was cooler. School had started.
Jay loved the fall. Jay loved pumpkins, too. Fall meant pumpkin time.
Pumpkins meant it was time for pumpkin pie. It meant jack-o'-lanterns. It meant Halloween.
Jay liked to plan his pumpkin faces. He made sad pumpkin faces. He made scary pumpkin faces, too.
He made faces for tall pumpkins. He made faces for short, fat pumpkins.
Jay did not know what pumpkin he would get. He wanted to be ready.
Then, one day, Dad said it was time. It was pumpkin day! Jay could hardly wait.
Mom packed a lunch for them. They had sandwiches, apples, and cookies. They had milk to drink.
The pumpkin farm was not close. They had to drive a long way.
Jay tried to make the time go fast. He looked out the car window. He counted the cows he saw. He counted the horses, too.
They passed forests. At one place, Jay saw that the pines stood in rows. Dad said that was a tree farm.
