James Madison

James Madison was the fourth president. He took office in 1809. Before he was president, he served the country in many ways. He helped write the Constitution. He was even called the Father of the Constitution. James was modest. He said that many heads and hands worked together to write it. He also helped plan the Bill of Rights. This protected the rights of citizens. Some of these are freedom of speech, press, and religion. During his presidency, the country was involved in the War of 1812.
