It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's a Sugar Glider!
Gliding through the air with the greatest of ease, a sugar glider is a pet that's sure to please. Sugar gliders are fun and entertaining. They can fly up to 55 yards at one time, a characteristic that makes them seem almost like a superhero pocket pet! Since they are unusual animals with unique needs, it is good to learn about them before getting one.
Sugar gliders originally lived in New Guinea, Indonesia, and Australia. Their natural home was the forest. Later, they were brought to the United States as pets. However, having a sugar glider as a pet is illegal in some states. Some people feel it is wrong to have exotic or unusual animals as pets. Some people feel that wild animals should not be kept in cages.
Most people think that sugar gliders are cute. An adult sugar glider can be between 6 inches to 7.5 inches long, and its tail is almost as long as its body. Sugar gliders resemble an American flying squirrel. They are small marsupials, so the females carry the young in pouches. Their soft fur is gray, and they have a white belly and black stripes down their backs. They have a flap of skin between their wrists and ankles that makes gliding possible.
