Mom and Ashley walked to the car. Ashley climbed in the back and buckled her seat belt. "Where are we going?" she asked as Mom got in the front seat.
"Today is Election Day," said Mom. "I'm going to vote."
"Can I vote too?"
Mom shook her head. "Not yet."
Ashley frowned. "Why not?"
"The law says you have to be eighteen," said Mom.
"But I want to vote," Ashley insisted.
Mom looked at Ashley in the rearview mirror. "Someday you will be able to vote."
"I don't like having to wait," said Ashley as she crossed her arms.
"The law is there for a reason," Mom said in a calming tone.
"Why would they make a law saying kids can't vote?"
