Is It the Hair or What You're Doing With It?

"Argghh! I hate my hair!" Christy said to her friend Cassandra. She was looking in the mirror while she pulled a round brush through her long brown hair.

"I think your hair is beautiful," said Cassandra. "It's long and straight. Mine is wavy and curly, and I wish I could straighten it."

"And I wish I had your curls!" Christy laughed. "I guess neither one of us likes the hair we've got!"

Cassandra smiled. "I suppose you are right. I just can't seem to get control of my hair. It sticks out when I let it air dry, but it doesn't cooperate when I use the blow dryer, either!"

"I understand," said Christy. "Even when I put curlers in my hair, it doesn't hold a curl. Then it looks funky the rest of the day. It goes in all sorts of directions and is frizzy."

The girls continued to work with their brushes and curling irons. Christy's big sister, Jessica, walked in. She had long, flowing blonde hair that always looked nice.

"Jessica, your hair always looks so nice. How do you avoid bad hair days?" Cassandra asked.

Jessica grinned. "I finally learned to enjoy the hair I have. I wash it and let it air dry, sometimes touching it up with a curler. I also began going to a talented hair stylist who taught me what products to use and gave me a cut that works for me."

Cassandra and Christy looked at each other. Maybe they were trying too hard to make their hair something it wasn't.
