I Hate My Life! Part 4
Walking around the track, Mark told Coach Adams about his problems. He said that his parents were unreasonable. He talked about wanting to stay at home. He said that at first he didn't want to work, but now it seemed like a good idea. He told Coach how upset he was that his parents now said he had to go with them.
"I guess that's it, Coach," Mark said. "I just don't understand my parents. First, they said I could stay at home if I got a job. Then they said I had to go with them. Why can't parents make up their minds?"
"I think they did make up their minds, Mark," he said. "They gave you a chance to stay at home, but you refused to meet their terms. Sometimes you can get what you want, but you have to pay for it."
"I don't know what you mean, Coach."
"Well, let me explain it this way. When your parents said you could stay home if you got a job, what did you say?" Coach Adams asked.
"I told them I didn't want to work. I told them that it was vacation time and I should be able to do what I wanted to do," Mark answered. "What's wrong with that?"
Coach Adams continued to walk around the track with Mark. He was thinking.
"Well, Mark," he said, "there really isn't anything wrong with what you said. You can have an opinion, and I am sure your parents didn't get upset about that. What did you say when they told you that you had to get a job or go with them?"
Mark was quiet for a minute. "Coach, you know how I am. I get mad real quick. It's just how I am. I can't help it. I just, I just . . . I guess I kinda yelled at them that it wasn't fair. Then I slammed the door on my way out," Mark said.
