Humor can pull you out of a sad situation. Pretend you worked countless hours putting together a car built from Legos. You followed the directions for days. You put the car together piece by piece. You used every one of the 839 pieces included in the Lego kit. The car was awesome. The wheels actually turned, the doors opened and closed, and the tail lights really lit up. You were so proud of yourself.
Once you finished the car, you rushed to show your mom and dad your creation. You tried to roll the car between the legs of a kitchen chair to show your parents what the car could do. Crash! You missed, and the car crashed hard into a chair leg. The building blocks crumbled and left a pile of blocks on the floor. Two wheels even fell off and rolled under the table.
Sometimes situations like this do not bother us. Other times these types of things seem to cause us to have a meltdown. This time, you melted down. You began to cry loudly and you threw yourself on the sofa .....
