Hot Air Balloons
Wouldn't you like to fly high in the sky? Think about floating over houses and trees. Think about going wherever the wind takes you. Doesn't that sound like fun? Then you might enjoy a ride in a hot air balloon.
Hot air balloons are very big. Most have pretty colors. They are fun to watch. They may have funny shapes, too.
These balloons are made of cloth. The bottom of the balloon is open. A burner heats the air. It makes hot air go into the balloon. Hot air is lighter than cold air. That makes the balloon float.
Under the balloon is a basket. The basket is called a gondola (GONE-dil-uh). People can ride in this basket. Some baskets are just big enough for one person. Some can hold three or four people. Some baskets are even bigger. More people can ride in them.
Some people are afraid to go up. They do not like high places. They just like to watch a hot air balloon.
