Hayly the Arctic Hare

Hayly nibbled on a willow shoot. She loved the tender leaves and branches. Summer in the Arctic did not last long so she wanted to make the best of it.

The only thing wrong with the Arctic in the summer was the bugs. She felt a tickling at the base of one of her ears and raised a foot to scratch it.

Hayly had been born in June. Though she looked like a rabbit, she was a hare. She was fully furred and could see when she was born; rabbit babies are born naked and blind. Baby hares are called leverets.

That first summer, Hayly grew quickly. She did not waste any time growing as large as her parents.
