Guide dogs help many people. They receive a lot of training. This training starts when they are puppies. The Guide Dogs for the Blind organization trains some of the puppies. They help people who cannot see well. When the puppies are 8 or 9 weeks old, they go live with a family. The family is known as a puppy raiser. The puppy raiser keeps the dog until it is between 13 and 18 months old.
Puppy raisers have a big job. They must take good care of the puppy. They must walk the puppy. They must housebreak the puppy. These puppies get good dry dog food. They cannot eat table scraps. The puppies go many places. They go to malls. They go to stores. They go to schools. They go to meetings.
