"Mom!" Scott yelled from the living room. "I want to send Grandma a birthday card!" He threw his crayons down and ran into the kitchen. Mom was putting dishes away.
"Wow, Scott, you are excited," said Mom. "What are you talking about?" Mom brushed Scott's brown bangs out of his eyes so she could see his face.
"I made an awesome card with my crayons, and I want to send it to Grandma for her birthday."
"Well, that's very nice of you, Scott, but it's not her birthday," said Mom.
Scott made an unhappy face. "Aw, I really worked hard on it, too. It is the best card I ever made," said Scott.
"Let me take a look at it. Can you bring it here and show it to me?" asked Mom.
Scott brought the card in to show his mom. It was very bright and colorful. "I can tell this took you a long time to make. Your handwriting looks very good," said Mom. "We can set it in a safe place to save it. Then we can send it to her when it is closer to her birthday. She will love it, Scott."
Scott handed the card to Mom, but his big brown eyes still looked very sad. Mom felt bad for Scott. She tried to think of a way she could make him smile again.
Later that evening after dinner, Mom found Scott sitting in his room. "I've been thinking about your card. We can send it to Grandma tomorrow if you want. Would you like that?"
