Glacier Bay National Park
There are eight national parks in Alaska. Glacier Bay National Park is one of these. It is located on the coast in the southern part of Alaska. The ocean currents affect the weather. They keep the weather mild in winter. The weather in summer is cool. It is also very rainy all year long. If you travel into the mountains, however, the weather is much colder. The mountains are farther from the ocean. The elevation of the mountains also makes the weather colder.
Most visitors to Glacier Bay arrive by cruise ship or tour boat. Since the area is a bay, it is mostly water. There are places to hike, camp, or kayak here. Visitors to Glacier Bay can see many different landforms. They can see tall mountains. Some of the mountains are over 15,000 feet high! There are protected coves and coastal forests.
