Giant Toads
The giant toad is a big toad with a big appetite. The average size of an adult giant toad is four to six inches long. The largest one ever found was fifteen inches long! Giant toads are omnivores. They are also opportunistic eaters. They will eat almost anything they can find. They eat other types of frogs and toads. They eat birds. They will even eat cat or dog food. Giant toads can find food using their sense of smell. This allows them to eat things that aren't moving.
Giant toads are native to Central and South America. They became abundant in Florida when they escaped while being transported through the Miami airport. Farmers in Australia brought giant toads into the country to eat beetles. The beetles were destroying sugar cane crops. The toads multiplied very quickly and became pests. Giant toads now are often called cane toads.
