Franklin D. Roosevelt

Our thirty-second president was Franklin Roosevelt. He was the fifth cousin of President Theodore Roosevelt. Franklin Roosevelt was born in New York in 1882. He entered politics after college. He was elected to the New York Senate. When Roosevelt was 39 years old, he suffered from polio. Polio is a disease that can paralyze the legs. Roosevelt worked hard to regain the use of his legs. He had to use a wheelchair at times to get around. Roosevelt was elected governor of New York. In 1932, he was elected president. Roosevelt became president in 1933 during the Great Depression.
