Farmers and Ranchers

Most farmers and ranchers own and operate mainly family-owned farms. They may own it themselves, or they may lease it from a landowner. Others work on farms or ranches owned by others. It can be very hard work with long hours.

There are many different kinds of farms and ranches. Each kind has its own set of jobs.

On crop farms, grains, cotton and other fibers, fruits, and vegetables are grown. Farmers must prepare the ground, till, plant, fertilize, cultivate, spray to control pests and diseases, and harvest the crops. After the crops are harvested, they make sure everything is packaged, stored, or sold.
