Smoking cigarettes harms nearly every organ in the human body. Almost a dozen cancers are caused by smoking. Some of them are cancer of the lungs, mouth, throat, esophagus, kidneys, and stomach.
The National Cancer Institute says there are more than four thousand chemicals in tobacco smoke. More than fifty of them are known to cause cancer. Breathing in someone else's cigarette smoke, called second-hand smoke, is harmful to nonsmokers, too.
