It's no wonder that Eve Bunting grew up to become an author. She was born and raised in Ireland, a country known for storytelling. Not only did Bunting love to tell stories, she loved to read stories as well. Books were good company on rainy days.

Eve Bunting grew up and married a man who loved books as much as she did. In 1958, they emigrated from Ireland, coming to America with their three children. California became their new home.

Bunting was thirty years old and had not yet begun her career as a children's author. To get started, she took a creative writing class at a local college. At home, she turned a small attic room into her own private workspace. She found story ideas in the books, magazines, and newspapers that she read.
