Election 2008 - The Issues

In November 2008, voters will choose a new president of the United States. How do voters decide whom to vote for? They look at the candidate's stand on the issues.

One of the big issues is the war in Iraq. Many people want our troops to come home right now. They want our soldiers to be safe. They think Iraq should take care of itself. They think the war is costing the United States too much money. Other people think that Iraq needs our help. They think the United States must help weaker countries. They also think that the war in Iraq helps to keep Americans safe from terrorists.

Another issue is healthcare. Many Americans cannot afford to go to the doctor when they get sick. Many people cannot get or cannot afford health insurance. They think the government should provide healthcare for all American citizens. But how should it be handled? Who will pay for it? Some people don't agree that it is the government's responsibility to provide for those who can't afford health services. These are questions that must be answered.
