Earth

Here we are at home again. We have landed on Earth, the third planet from the sun. It is the fifth largest planet in our solar system. It is the only planet we know of where life exists.

In some ways, Earth is like Mercury, Venus, and Mars. All four are rocky planets. They all have solid surfaces. They all have craters. They all have plains, mountains, and valleys.

In other ways, Earth is very different. Earth has oceans. Most of Earth is covered with water. The air is made of mostly nitrogen and oxygen -- just right for us to breathe. Earth is home to people, plants, and animals because it has both water and the right kind of atmosphere.
