Things don't always turn out the way that you plan. Some things you plan for days. Other things you plan for years. Some things you never plan for at all. They just happen. Sometimes things happen and your plans get all messed up. And sometimes, those things are the best things that ever happen to you!
As a young girl, Elaine Lobl was like a lot of kids. She liked to draw. She also liked to read. She grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania with two sisters. She was also a very good student. She graduated from high school at the top of her class. She went to college and studied chemistry. Elaine was the first in her family to go to college. She chose to study chemistry because she was good at it. She also knew that there would be plenty of jobs for her when she finished her degree.
After graduating from college, Elaine married David Konigsburg. They met during Elaine's first year in college. David was preparing to be a psychologist. Elaine decided to stay in school instead of finding a job. She did graduate work in chemistry while David was finishing his studies and searching for a job.
