Imagine that you are very hot and thirsty. Someone holds out a glass of water to you. It is cool and clear. It looks so good. You reach for it. All of a sudden, the water in the glass looks brown and muddy. There are little rocks in it. Leaves and something that looks like hair are floating on the top. Do you still want that glass of water?
Of course not. You would want all that dirty, yucky stuff taken out of your water. That's like what your kidneys do for you. They take the waste out of your blood. Then they mix the waste with a little water. That mixture is urine. The urine goes to your bladder and then out of your body.
When your kidneys don't work like they should, you may have joint problems. Your body might ache and you might feel tired all the time. You might have a hard time going to sleep.
