Deborah Wiles
Children's author Deborah Wiles didn't begin her writing career until later in her life. She uses her life experiences as inspiration for her books. Wiles also has good observation skills and uses her awareness of the details around her as building blocks for her books.
Deborah Wiles was born on May 7, 1953, in Mobile, Alabama. Before she got married, she was Deborah Marie Edwards. Deborah is one of three siblings. Her parents are Marie and Thomas Edwards. They were married for fifty-two years before they both died within three months of each other. Deborah's father was an Air Force pilot, so her family moved often because of this. They moved to Hawaii when Deborah was five because her father was sent to Hickam Air Force Base. Then when she was eight, Deborah's father was transferred to Andrews Air Force Base which is near Washington, D.C. Her family lived in Maryland for seven years. There were many summers when Deborah got to enjoy time in Mississippi with her grandmother, Miss Eula, and her aunts, uncles, and cousins. When Deborah was in high school, she and her family moved to South Carolina for two years. For her last year in high school, her family moved to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. That was where Deborah graduated from high school.
After graduating high school, Deborah moved back to the United States. She attended Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi. Deborah fell in love and got married. That's when she became Deborah Wiles. After only one semester, she left college. Wiles didn't go back to college for many years because she started a family. She had four children. She loved being a mother. Wiles's marriage ended, but years later she married again.
