Debbie Dadey

The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids is a series. Mrs. Dadey co-wrote these books with Marcia Thornton Jones.
Mrs. Dadey was born in Kentucky in 1959. As a child, she was quite a talker. She jabbered on and on all of the time! In the fifth grade her talking often got her in trouble at school. As a punishment she was forced to write Abraham Lincoln's most famous speech. She had to copy the Gettysburg Address over and over again. Mrs. Dadey still remembers that. She still remembers that speech, too!
Mrs. Dadey has not always been a writer. Once, she was a first grade teacher. Then she became a school librarian. While working as a librarian she met a new friend. Her name was Marcia Thornton Jones. Mrs. Jones was a teacher at the school where Debbie worked. One day they both began talking about children's books. Both ladies said that they had always wanted to write one. The new friends decided to try to write a book together. Soon they began writing all the time. They wrote before school. They wrote after school. They even wrote during lunch! Together they wrote many stories. Then they tried to get their stories published. For more than a year they mailed out their stories. But every publisher told them the same thing: no.
