David Adler is a dreamer. He always has been. As a boy, he often made up stories to entertain his five brothers and sisters. His parents owned a large house. It had three floors. No one ever lived on the third floor. His parents used it as a storage space. They kept unwanted items for family members who had moved to another country. Most of the items were things that they had received as wedding gifts. They had luggage, dishes, cups, glasses, pots and pans, and many other items. David loved to crawl around up there, looking through all the stuff. It gave him ideas for even more stories to tell!
David, the dreamer, grew up and became a teacher. He didn't stop dreaming, though. One day his three-year-old nephew came to visit him. He asked David a question. That question was followed by another question. And another. And another. And another. The boy's questions just kept coming! After he left, David's head was filled with all the questions his nephew had asked. David Adler took all those thoughts and used them. He wrote a story. He sent it off to a publisher to see if they liked it. They did! His first story was going to become a book! It was called, A Little At A Time.
Not a lot changed after David Adler wrote his first book. It didn't make him rich. He kept being a teacher. The only thing that changed was that he started doing more writing. David Adler was a math teacher. Most of his time was spent thinking about math, teaching math, or doing math. That led him to write several books that could make math more fun. A few years later, a big change in his life led to a big change in his writing.
