"Chicken lips and lizard hips and alligator eyes," the children sang. "Monkey legs and buzzard eggs and salamander thighs."
Mike took a deep breath. He did not feel so good. He hoped they were not singing about dinner!
It was Dulcimer Week in North Carolina.
Many people had come to Swannanoa to learn about dulcimers. They would learn about many other mountain customs, too.
Mike's mother and father could play dulcimers. They had made their own dulcimers last year.
The children sang, "Rabbit ears and camel rears and tasty toenail pies. You stir them all together, and it's called Dessert Surprise!"
"Yuck," Mike thought. "Yuck, yuck, yuck!"
He was glad the song was over.
The next morning Mike walked to the meal tent. He sat down with his mother and father.
