Can children live in the White House? Yes, they can. At least that's true if you are the child of the president. Does that sound like a dream come true? It could be. It could also make a person feel a little trapped. It all depends.

Life in the White House might seem like the perfect life. There would be many special things. Why did Thomas Jefferson call it "a splendid misery" then? That's strange since splendid means something good, but misery does not.

The White House has two important purposes. It has an office where the president works. It's also his home and the home for his family. People watch much of the family's life. Sometimes that's fun. Sometimes that's too much watching.
