C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia
C.S. Lewis is best known for writing The Chronicles of Narnia. He was an author for children. He was an author for adults. His life was much more than Narnia.
Clive Staples Lewis was born on November 29, 1898. He was born in Ireland. He lived with his parents and an older brother. C.S. Lewis's childhood home was called Little Lea. He and his brother often played in the overgrown garden. There was also a library filled with books.
In 1908, C.S. Lewis's mother died. She had cancer. Up until this point, C.S. Lewis and his brother were taught by private tutors. After her death, the boys were sent to a boarding school in England. Lewis did not like the school. The rules were strict. The headmaster was uncaring. The school closed in 1910. C.S. Lewis returned to Ireland, but not for long. Throughout his education, he went to many different schools.
Even though he moved from school to school, one thing remained the same. He enjoyed writing. As a young reader, he loved stories about talking animals. That love carried over to his writing. He and his brother would create stories about a place that was run by animals. In his teenage years, he became interested in nature. He expressed his interest by writing poetry.
