Behind the Camera
Television and movies wouldn't be possible without a camera. Cameras must have someone to operate them. That person is called a camera operator or a videographer. The videographer uses the camera to record images or video.
The cameras are very expensive. They are also heavy. A tripod is used to hold heavy cameras. A camera operator must know everything about the camera. The operator must know how make the camera move. The movements are called pans, tilts, and zooms. These movements must be very smooth.
Camera images may be used for a television news program. Images may also be put together to make a movie. Placing images together is called editing. Those who edit are called editors. They decide which images are best. Camera operators and editors may work for big or small movie companies. Some camera operators work alone. They are called freelancers. Other camera operators work for small television stations. Camera operators also work for television networks like CNN, NBC, ABC, or CBS.
