Bacteria in the Soil

Bacteria are tiny, simple one-celled organisms. They aren't plants, and they aren't animals. They are simply simple critters! Bacteria come in all different shapes. Some look like grains of rice. Others look like blobs. Bacteria are too small to see without a microscope, but they have some big jobs to do in the soil. Bacteria put nitrogen in the soil. This is something that plants need. Bacteria also help dead plants rot. When dead plants rot, their nutrients are returned to the soil. This is good news for plants!
