It's the first day back to school. Our teacher gave us a writing assignment. She wants us to tell her who we are. Duh! I am Jordan King. End of story. I don't know what else to write.
Seriously, she wants us to write for thirty minutes. I look over at Emily. She's bent over her paper, writing busily. She's even smiling! Emily writes good stories. I was in her class last year. I'll bet she likes writing assignments. I, however, do NOT!
I look over at Jon on the other side of me. He's frowning. He's writing slowly. Now he's erasing what he just wrote. See, it isn't that easy.
I see my teacher, Miss Lakewood, looking at me. I know she wants me to write something. I bend over and pretend to write. A quick glance at Miss Lakewood tells me she's no longer watching me. I sigh. What will I write?
"Who is Jordan King?" I think to myself. Hmmm, maybe that's not a bad opening for my story. So I write that down. Then I try to answer the question. I'm a girl. I'm ten years old. I have a mom and a dad, but my dad doesn't live with us. My parents got a divorce when I was six. I write all that down. Now what?
