Anne Frank's Father
Anne Frank is the author of Anne Frank: The Dairy of a Young Girl. In this personal journal, Anne wrote about her life and time she spent in hiding during World War II. Anne's father, Otto, was the one who had Anne's diary published after her death.
Otto Frank was a banker in Germany. He moved his family to Amsterdam after Adolf Hitler came into power. Anne loved her father very much. She thought he was a wonderful storyteller. He used to tell Anne and her older sister Margot stories about two sisters, both named Paula. One Paula was a good listener and always did what was right. The other Paula was bad. The Frank girls loved to sit and listen to these make-believe stories.
As Hitler's power began to spread, Otto and his wife Edith feared that their family could be in danger. They decided that the family should go into hiding. Otto secretly prepared a hiding place in his office building. He spent months moving furniture, supplies, and food into the annex. He wanted the area to be ready so that his family could move into it at a moment's notice.
