Ann McGovern
Ann McGovern is an author of books for kids. She has written more than fifty books! Many of her books are based on things she has seen or done in her own life. There are books about places she has been. There are books about animals she has seen. There are books about people she admires. Ann McGovern spends a lot of time exploring. She explores the world. She also explores in books. She likes to write about what she learns. She wants her books to be about things that kids want to know. She wants to make reading fun.
Ann McGovern grew up in New York City. The city was all that she knew. She was ten years old when she first saw a cow in a country field! As a girl, Ann loved to read. She would go to the library every day after school. She liked to take her books to Central Park. She had a special tree where she would always go. She climbed the tree until she reached her favorite branch. She read for hours at a time there.
One thing that Ann remembers from her childhood is how she felt about history. She thought that learning about history was boring. The books were boring, and they never answered the questions that she wanted answered. When Ann became a writer, she made a promise to herself. She promised she would write interesting books about how people lived long ago. She kept her promise. Ann has written many books about how people lived in the past. She has written books about colonial times. She has written books about the lives of Native Americans. She has written about knights. She has also written about President Lincoln. Her books ask questions that you won't see answered in most history books. What did the people wear? What rules did they have to follow? What did they do for fun? These questions are how Ann McGovern makes history fun.
