"Okay, class, please find your seats," said Mrs. Williams, the art teacher. "We don't have much time, so we need to get started on today's project."
Mrs. Williams talked to the class as she passed out the art assignment for the day.
"Now for today's assignment, we have special permission to go outside and do our drawings in the yard. There will be a lot of things outside to inspire our imaginations and give us good ideas."
The students picked up their sketch pads and walked to the door. Most of the students were excited to have a chance to be outside on such a warm, sunny day-most, but not all. James reluctantly picked up his sketch pad and grumbled under his breath.
When he finally made it outside, his classmates had all found places to set up their sketch pads and had started drawing. James looked around for someplace to set up and do his drawing. Mrs. Williams saw James was hesitant to get started, so she walked over to him.
"James, is there a problem? You can sit anywhere you like. The assignment is to draw anything, so it can be a close up study of an individual item, or you could do a landscape. Really, just about anything at all that you would like to do will be acceptable."
"Thank you, Mrs. Williams. I'm just trying to find something to draw," said James.
James walked around the area for a few minutes and tried to think of something to do for the assignment. After several minutes, he finally decided to draw some trees. Several minutes of sketching proved to be fruitless. James was disappointed with his drawing and tore the page from his sketch pad and crumpled it up in disgust.
