I am your esophagus. Some people call me a swallowing tube. I think of myself as the most excellent esophagus. You see, I am very important. If it were not for me, food would have no way to get to your stomach.
I am like a stretchy pipe or tube that is about ten inches long. I have muscles that squeeze from top to bottom to move food into the stomach. My muscles make it possible for you to swallow when you're hanging upside down!
On the inside, I look like a smooth, slippery tube. I have a shiny, pink lining. If you swallow too much air or drink too much soda, I can let the air come back up.
