"I don't understand how you can work at a desk like that," Mark said to his cousin Rachel, who was staying with his family for this school year while her parents were overseas on a government job assignment.
Rachel had been given the guest room for this year. Mark's parents provided her a brand new desk with six drawers and an overhead shelf. Mark was a little jealous. He wished that he had a brand new desk. He always enjoyed organizing his books and papers. He wished that he had Rachel's desk and she had his, especially since she didn't seem to care about keeping hers neat.
Rachel looked at him with a grimace. "It's not your desk," she said, almost rubbing it in. "Why should it bother you?"
"Are you able to find everything you need?" Mark asked.
Rachel wanted to dodge the question. "Eventually," she said.
Mark grinned with satisfaction. "If you set up your desk neatly, you'd find things faster."
"I don't have time to keep straightening my desk," Rachel countered.
"Oh, that's not true. I'm as busy as you are, and I keep mine clean."
