Reading Comprehension for January 23
Amanda held the special bevel-tipped pen firmly in her fingers as she practiced the letters of the alphabet. No matter how carefully she worked, each letter appeared to have glaring flaws. Amanda was tempted to throw the pen down in frustration, but she was determined to keep on trying.
Aunt Alice came and leaned over her shoulder.
"How's it coming?" she asked.
Amanda sighed. "None of the letters are coming out as nicely as I would like them to. Look at this one, and this one," she said, pointing out the letters she was dissatisfied with.
"Those are very good!" exclaimed Aunt Alice. "Some are slightly different, but that just shows your individuality. You have done quite a good job with your alphabet."
"Do you really think so?" asked Amanda hopefully.
Aunt Alice nodded. "Of course, or I wouldn't have said it. Have you decided what poem or saying you want to put on the parchment?"
Amanda nodded, and she pushed a piece of paper toward her aunt. "I wrote this myself. I thought Mom and Dad would like something that I created better than anything else.”
