2008 Election Issues
In November 2008, American voters will go to the polls and vote for a new president and vice president. Voters should vote for the candidate who feels the same as the voter does about the issues.
One of the biggest issues in the 2008 election is how to handle the war in Iraq. Many people feel that America is spending too much money on a war that cannot be won. They want the U.S. to remove the troops as soon as possible and let Iraq deal with its own problems. They feel that Iraq is not our problem. Other people feel that the U.S. should keep troops in Iraq to help stabilize the new government. They feel that bringing the troops home would be a sign of weakness to the world. They feel that the U.S. has a responsibility to weaker nations like Iraq to help keep their citizens safe.
Another big issue in this election will be healthcare for American citizens. Canada and Great Britain have healthcare for all their citizens. Many Americans cannot afford healthcare. Some parents cannot afford to take their children to a doctor when they get sick. Some families have been turned down for insurance because they already have health problems. Some of the people who need healthcare the most cannot get it. Many Americans are calling for health insurance for all American citizens. They think the government should provide it for people who cannot afford it. The main questions are how to pay for it and who should be in charge of the system. Should the government be in charge of the healthcare system, or should private companies provide services? Should individuals, employers, or government pay for healthcare services? How will we afford it?
