Samuel, Justin, Thomas, and Nicholas each have a car. This year, they each drove a different distance. The distances were: 2,118, 2,472, 2,268, and 2,537 miles. The speedometer on each of the cars keeps track of the total number of miles the cars have been driven. The current speedometer numbers on the cars are 59,939, 59,485, 58,593, and 60,186 miles.

Figure out how many miles each person drove their car for this year and the total number of miles that have been driven (the current speedometer reading).


1.    The combined total miles that Samuel and Thomas have put on their cars, rounded to the nearest hundreds, is one hundred eighteen thousand, eight hundred.

2.    Samuel drove seventy more miles than Thomas this year, rounded to the nearest tens.

3.    Justin drove one hundred fifty more miles than Nicholas this year, rounded to the nearest tens.

4.    Nicholas' current speedometer reading is neither fifty-nine thousand, four hundred eighty-five nor fifty-eight thousand, five hundred ninety-three.

5.    The person that drove two thousand, four hundred seventy-two miles this year does not have a speedometer reading of fifty-eight thousand, five hundred ninety-three.
