Use a comma to set off quoted elements.
Rita could not help but tell John, "A car that gets 80 miles per gallon means nothing in the real world if no one can afford it."
"After you pick up your toys," Mom stated, "you can go outside and play."

Do not add a comma after the quote if it is a question or exclamation.
"Hurry up!" Mary yelled.
    



Rewrite each sentence using the correct punctuation.
1.  Morgan whispered "Shelby Anna is in love with Caleb."

2.  "It's Jill's turn to wash dishes" complained Betty. "Why do I have to do them?"

3.  Mrs. Freeman said "It's time to go to lunch."

4.  "Your shirt is too small" his mother said. "Put on a new one."
