Imagine you are running an anger management class and Okonkwo is one of your students. Before you even try to work with him you are given all the information we read in the first few chapters. Why do you think Okonkwo is so angry all the time? What is really behind his rage?
Compare and contrast Ikemefuna and Nwoye. What common trait draws them together as friends? What are some of the differences between them, especially in the eyes of Okonkwo?
Choose one of the religious or social customs described in the first four chapters (e.g. the Week of Peace or the meeting of the village men to discuss important issues). Describe how that custom is beneficial to the people of the village. Is there a similar custom you know of from our own time? What conclusions can you draw from your discussion?
Consider one of the many proverbs mentioned in this section. Explain the meaning of the proverb in language a fifth grader would understand. Do you agree with the proverb? Give reasons (preferably from your own experience) why or why not.
