There are famous composers from every period in musical history. List the composers and at least one piece of their work.
<i>Bach</i> and many other famous composers didn't become famous until well after their deaths. Explain why this is a common occurrence.
The musical compositions composed in each musical period are quite different. Chose two periods and compare/contrast the musical compositions from each one.
<i>Brahms</i> was not a nice person and was always down on himself. Explain why he never felt he was good enough.
<i>Mahler</i> was a famous conductor before he became famous for his music compositions. Discuss why <i>Mahler</i> was a conductor instead of a composer.
<i>Stravinsky</i> and <i>Schoenberg</i> designed new forms of music that people either liked or didn't like. Compare their new music forms and explain why people might not have liked them.
<i>Schoenberg</i> designed a new form of music called <i>atonal</i>. Describe what <i>atonal</i> music sounds like and how it was developed.
<i>George and Ira Gershwin</i> supported each other in their musical endeavors. Describe how each one complemented the other one in their musical talents.
The new musical era was called <i>The Modern Era</i>, and <i>Gershwin</i> and <i>Copland</i> appealed to a wider audience. Explain why their music was different and how it appealed to that wider audience.
From the <i>Classical Era</i> to the <i>Modern Era</i>, composers came and went. Explain why the composers mentioned in the book were famous, even if it was after their death.
