After the first breakfast that the author writes about, Jody walked up the hill in the back of his house. The author goes on to give great description and detail about the ranch in which Jody lives on. Using the descriptions, illustrate the Tiflin ranch.
On Jody's walk through the vegetable garden, he paused for a moment to smash a green muskmelon with his heel, but he was not happy about it. "It was a bad thing to do, he knew perfectly well." What does this tell us about Jody's character? Find other examples in Part I when Jody does something he feels badly about.
Describe the red pony that was given to Jody as a gift.
Demonstrate how Jody changed after he received the pony. Reference passages and page numbers from the novel.
Explain how the pony's ears helped to indicate its emotions.
Describe the process in which Jody trained the pony.
Explain why Jody did not want it to rain.
When the pony's health starts to deteriorate, Jody gets extremely concerned and can't stop thinking about it. Describe a time when you were worried or concerned about something and couldn't stop thinking about it.
As the pony's health worsened, Jody looks around and sees that the "Place was familiar, but curiously changed. It wasn't itself any more, but a frame for things that were happening." Explain what this means.
