In this section we see a different side of Esperanza. She seems to feel like she belongs to Mango Street. She has met many different families and friends. Describe some of the people Esperanza has met on Mango Street. Use details from the book to support your answer.
What do we know about the family that gave the different color shoes to Esperanza and her friends? Why do you think they might have given the girls those shoes?
At one point in the story, Esperanza describes Rosa Vargas's many children. How do you think Esperanza feels about Rosa's children? Do you think she is the only one in the neighborhood to feel this way about them? Give details of their behavior from the story to support your answer.
Esperanza tells us that people are afraid to come into her neighborhood because they think of them as dangerous. What evidence through her description of Mango Street and the people who live there would bring you to agree that strangers might find the neighborhood to be a dangerous place to get lost in? Give some evidence and description from the story to support your answer.
On pages 36-37, Esperanza and her friends start naming clouds and eventually get into a silly argument. When was the last time you and your friends got into a similar argument? Can you identify with this argument? Compare and contrast the differences between your last argument with your friends and the one in the book.
