Describe the relationship between Tom, Aunt Polly, and Sid. Make sure to cite examples from the story.
In your own words, explain what Mark Twain meant at the end of Chapter 2 regarding work versus play. Why do you think Twain refers to himself in that paragraph?
After Aunt Polly found out that Tom did not break the sugar bowl, she does not apologize for hitting him. Why? Do you think she was right or wrong for doing this? Explain your answer.
At the end of Chapter 4, the author asks the reader to "draw the curtain of charity over the rest of the scene." Create a comic strip that illustrates how you think the scene would have played out had it been continued.
During the church service, the Reverend Sprague informed the congregants of the many upcoming meetings and societies. Mark Twain remarks that it is "a queer custom which is still kept up in America...in this age of abundant newspapers." He then says that "the less there is to justify a traditional custom, the harder it is to get rid of it." Explain what the author means by this last statement. Give an example of a custom in today's society that is no longer necessary.
Compare and contrast Tom Sawyer to Huckleberry Finn.
