September 11th History
On September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists from middle eastern countries hijacked four airplanes in a coordinated attack against the United States. The hijackers flew two planes into sky scrapers known as the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in New York. The impact from these crashes caused the buildings to catch fire and collapse. A third plane was flown in to the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The fourth plane, which officials believe was intended for either the White House or the Capital, crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. Once the heroic passengers on this flight learned about the horrific attacks in other parts of the country, they bravely fought the terrorists and prevented them from flying the plane to the nation's capital. Three thousand people lost their lives in these tragic attacks. As a nation, we remember their sacrifice and honor their lives with the determination to prevent terrorism on U.S. soil and abroad.
