President George W. Giraffe
By Beth Beutler

1     George the giraffe yawned and reached for his toothbrush. It had been a long night. He had not slept well. He felt like he should go somewhere and hibernate! His mind was on his new project. He had been elected president of the forestry club, and they had a lot of possible projects listed on a sheet of paper. The forest needed a lot of help, and the animals were going to try to make improvements. It would take much effort to fix the portion of the forest that was the most neglected. They would also have to impose some rules to achieve the results they hoped for.

2     Today was the first meeting with the other animals to begin organizing their projects. Quite honestly, George was a little nervous. He was not sure how he was even elected. He won by a hearty margin. He actually was rather quiet. He was the kind of animal who worked behind the scenes. So when Rutherford Rabbit asked if he could nominate George for president, George had been very surprised.

3     "Let me think about that," he answered.
